Says Isabelle of her work: “In time our memories will fade, they will warp, shift and become untrue. In time those memories will be as if a dream, beautiful but misguided. And in time we will have no choice but to lay them to rest because a thousand times remembered is a thousand times rewritten and a thousand times from the truth.”
Through her artwork, Isabelle de Kleine explores how imperfectly perfect of our perception and memory can be. “As we are subjective beings our experiences are constantly informing our understanding of the world, these cognitive biases mean that our ‘truths’ might not be universally true. Although one’s perception might not be a perfectly accurate interpretation of the world, there is still great beauty in these imperfections.”
