Through her practice, Isabelle explores the complexities of our fragmented perceptions and memories.⁠
⁠
Says Isabelle of her work, “As we are subjective beings our experiences are constantly informing our understanding of the world, these cognitive biases mean that our ‘truths’ might not be universally true. Although one’s perception might not be a perfectly accurate interpretation of the world, there is still great beauty in these imperfections.⁠
⁠
“We are collages of experience. Mosaics of memories. Architects of reality. My paintings explore the flawed nature of humanity that is due to our biases; memory loss and the shapeshifting nature of memory, the inconsistencies that exist within us and the creation of our own realities."⁠

ART CONSULTANCY. This week, First Nations + Hungarian artist Tiarna Herczeg + Leia from @the_art_of_wall are working to complete a mammoth mural in Sydney's Sofitel Hotel Wentworth.⁠
⁠
Tiarna's mural is a celebration of the land, drawing back to her connection and ties to Kuku Yalanji Country where the Daintree Rainforest has existed for over 180 million years. As one of the most bio diverse places in the world, it is of deep cultural and spiritual significance.⁠ The large-scale artwork will span 95m2 and will feature as part of Sofitel's latest restaurant development.⁠

Say Melissa: “This work was produced while on location in Karijini National Park (Pilbara, WA) on a camping trip in 2018. To sit in the landscape and let it imprint itself on you; a remembering; a tangible thought; the smell of mineral rich earth. Drawing for me becomes an annotation of landscape; a shorthand writing; a synthesis of experience.”

NOW SHOWING. Emma Lindegaard's latest body of work 'The Tides Do That With Me' continues in our Woolloomooloo gallery through til 3 August. For the past year Emma Lindegaard started each day at Wayalup Beach, a stretch of ocean south of Perth along Australia’s western coastline. Emma would traverse the shores, sitting with uncomfortable thoughts surrounding recent changes in her life.⁠

In this series, the artist has turned her lived experience into forms that reference her time at the ocean through the textures, shapes and movement. Intuitive mark-making and carving emulate sounds and surfaces with an ethereal quality. Her sculptures are formed around a central void which allows the light to pierce through the clay, emulating the heart space within the ceramic body.⁠

ON SHOW. Mitchell Cheesman's current solo exhibition 'From My Chair' is a brilliant presentation of his surroundings on the Sunshine Coast through warped perspectives and intimate anecdotes. 'Blank Yellow Pages and the Two Headed Goose', 2024, tells the story of two geese that would frequent the artist's home in Buderim. An ode to companionship, Mitchell immortalises the geese as one entity through his work - one of the many observations made from his chair.⁠
