“Seeing a neglected garden can be unsightly,” says Kevin Perkins. “But in a city it can be inspiring, like a patch of wilderness in the concrete forest. A place where birds find refuge and cats prowl.”

Ever enthralled by the natural world, Kevin uses earthy colour combinations, rich textures and the rhythms of life and death found in nature to create works that conjure up traditional landscape paintings yet veer into abstraction. Working with acrylic paint primarily on canvas, cotton and paper, his paintings are a synthetic beauty, an icon of the natural world. Perkins’ work intends to evoke a dialogue with the natural landscape with an attentiveness to the present moment without being tied to the particularity of place.
