Kevin Perkins explains his work: “My Sisters the Birds is a nod to St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. St Francis believed that it is person’s duty to protect the natural world as steward and fellow creature. This painting is a culmination of plant forms and textures found in gardens which are often the permanent home of yard ornaments statues of St Francis.”

Ever enthralled by the natural world, Kevin uses earthy colour combinations, rich textures and the rhythms of life and death found in nature to create works that conjure up traditional landscape paintings yet veer into abstraction. Working with acrylic paint primarily on canvas, cotton and paper, his paintings are a synthetic beauty, an icon of the natural world. Perkins’ work intends to evoke a dialogue with the natural landscape with an attentiveness to the present moment without being tied to the particularity of place.
