Pair with Oyster 1

In these particular works, Oyster 1 and Oyster 2, William Versace ground pigment from oyster shells found in Kamay by hand. Mixing the pigment with various inks, powders and lime powders, he created a multi-layered, multi-textural piece to reflect the layered depth and composition of an oyster shell. He then carved abstract lines into the piece, creating a resin and lime plaster relief. These lines reflect the shapes of the intricate coastline of Kamay.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands – Kamay, more specifically, Bunnabi, the north headland of Botany Bay, on Gadigal land. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and we celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of NSW.
