“The light skips, amongst the loose playground of stones, as the snow holds tight.” ~ Peta Morris.
Peta’s artwork centres around the exploration of her metaphysical response to the natural environment, most recently Mount Kosciusko National Park in Australia’s Snowy Mountain Region. It is these internal responses, sparked by the visual and physical experiences of hiking through these wilderness areas, that form the basis of her latest stunning landscape series.
Says Peta of her Mount Kosciusko series: “In January 2018 friend, adventurer and fellow artist Daniel Kojta died whilst attempting to traverse, from the lowest point in Australia, Lake Eyre to the highest point, Mount Kosciusko, by bike. Daniel also happened to be a paraplegic, his adventurous spirit never wavering after his accident, it was only strengthened. His fierce determination was not only inspiring to be around but continues after his death. I went to finish the last part of this journey for him, creating a series of artworks in response. What has resulted, is a series of work that suspends time, evoking the surreal world of grief and the tenderness that enveloped me from this vast dramatic landscape.”
