Says Kate Banazi of her one-of-a-kind screenprint work Slip of the Tongue: “Pulled from life drawings, the elements that are extracted are digitised, simplified abstracted and reassembled back in to the life drawing configurations as abstracted portraits. Some elements are mixed with others from differing drawings pulling together interlocking shapes from different bodies, touching on the intimacy of connections, overlaps and engagement the fragile threads holding us together.

“The silkscreens used in the making of the work are unretouched, every blemish celebrated, creating variations with every placement contrary to the regular silkscreen process of uniformity. For many years I have embraced the inclusions and nuances that would usually be rejected, enjoying the life that it infuses into each print, making each one unique with personality and using the screen as a painting process rather than a reproduction one.”
