Study For A Portrait Of Friends In A Distant Place

Kate Banazi

Mixed media on Italian linen
95cm H x 70cm W

Created from life drawings and self portraits dissected with singular elements pulled, repeated and then reconfigured celebrating the abstracted  body in and out of space. Movement, shadows and colour, a rhythmic dance of order imposed over chaos – a process of drawing, computerisation, interpretation through repetition, humanised again into a beautiful awkward and layered portrait.

Says Kate of this work: ” Extracted from drawings from old photographs creating a multi layered portrait of the shifting spaces between relationships which have been amplified by the glitchy digital communications across continents.

Digital is now my usual way of corresponding regularly with family and friends across the world but it also means a visual and audible drop in and out, information lost but also with conversations taking place on a more intimate level.
