Curatorial+Co. presents Darlings 2021, a group small works show consisting of over forty artists from across the world.
Ash Leslie is a self taught artist based on the coast South of Sydney. She has enjoyed a life-long passion for art since discovering a love of painting and drawing in early childhood. Often working with a muted palette, Ash instinctively explores her compositions with a multi-layered technique resulting in paintings that are both balanced in structure and organic form.
Says Ash of her work: “These works were painted as part of my recent collection ‘Komorebi’ as the four month long lockdown began in June 2020. As a mum to a five-week old and three year old, solace [as always] was found in the fleeting moments of my art practice and the rhythms of the bushland surrounding my home. During this time I found myself drawn to the trees and their shadows, inspired by the beauty of contrast between light and dark. In such a dark time in history I reflected on how sometimes to appreciate the good times we must have the contrast of the bad times. For me these works were my light in the dark. My sunlight that filtered through the trees.”
[Komorebi – the Japanese expression for the sunlight as it filters through the trees.]
