Dark fired stoneware
32cm H x 16cm W
Scott McNeil’s figures are generally formed in fine stoneware clay, sometimes embellished with a dark patina after firing. The immediacy and raw complexity of the media has become enduringly attractive, both a departure and a continuation of earlier ideas explored on canvas.
Says Scott of this work: “The grey-coloured works are quite different. The intention is for them to act upon a more dramatized platform where the figures are posed, embattled or histrionic. There is an irony in their antique gravitas, humour in their overt drama, elegance in their pose.”
