Says Kate of this work: “Perspex interests me in the challenge of accepting ‘what is’. It is only in its perfect state whilst it is completely covered, as soon as its face is exposed, it is vulnerable and flawed wether that be with dust, a finger mark or a scratch. This also extends into my silkscreen practice of not retouching any blemishes within the screen, things that normally would covered or regarded as flaws I embrace, the equivalence of a mole, a freckle a wayward hair – instead of perfection we should be looking for human touch a personality a spark of difference.
These new sculptures are individual portraits, each one a different interpretation of colours and silkscreen interactions made of repurposed panels and hand printed elements.”
