Ileigh Hellier is an Australian landscape artist based in Newcastle, NSW.
Her works are influenced by the natural landscape of the central and mid north coast of NSW. She shares a beloved creative studio with six other artists fondly known as The Sh**ty Shed. Here, the seven artists laugh, create and muse on their unique crafts, all the while encouraging each other’s practice.
Says Ileigh of her work: “My works are influenced by the natural landscape around me. They are quite abstract and I often use exaggerated or simplified colours, shapes and textures to represent things. I think this is one of the things that I enjoy most about painting. Being able to paint something but not necessarily portraying what it actually looks like. There is a lot of freedom and play in that. “
Ileigh graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2017. She has been a finalist in the Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship, John Glover Art Prize and Little Things Art Prize.
